40 Nights of Rock Archive: Day 24 video blog - Of Montreal
Scott and Steve arrive at the Granada Theatre in Dallas to interview Of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes and film the band’s set. In this video blog, we catch the band’s stage props being unloaded, a clip of “Rapture Rapes the Muses” live at the Granada, and Barnes meeting with fans after the show.

OF MONTREAL - “HEIMDALSGATE LIKE A PROMETHEAN CURSE”
Yet another inventive video from the wonderfully weird Of Montreal. These guys are like the Talking Heads, David Bowie and Shuggie Otis all rolled into one mythical lobster-clawed beast of funky glitter rock.

OF MONTREAL - “DOING NOTHING”
Some excellent middle period Of Montreal from 2002 album Aldhils Arborteum, which bridges the gap from the band’s proggy, whimsical psychedelic roots to its much funkier, more danceable present.

We financed all of our travel for the film using Kickstarter. Great fundraising platform for any art/film/music project. Funny thing about Kevin from the times I’ve met him… he is truly a many-faceted individual. The part of him you see onstage - all glammed out and in drag, etc. - is definitely a very real part of him, but I’ve also seen him lounging in khakis and a button-down shirt watching SportsCenter. I think it’s a cool thing, though. No one is ever so simple and one-dimensional.
Thanks for following us - and for the Kickstarter tip. You are wise to spread the word.
Aces,
Steve
Nice! Thanks. We saw you were an OM junkie and figured you might like our movie’s new blog. We’re on Facebook & Twitter, too. The film is in post-production right now, but it’s going to be amazing when it’s done. A true DIY road movie - two of us filmed the whole thing, driving 16,000 miles back & forth across the country in a Jeep for 40 consecutive days (with no days off), interviewing a different band every night and shooting their performance. We caught up with Of Montreal at the Granada in Dallas last May. Such wonderful people. No one treats their fans better. The whole band was out back meeting fans and signing autographs for hours after the show. They talked with every last person who stayed. So cool.
Cheers and keep in touch,
Steve
